hOmeLabs 2500 vs. 4000 Sq Ft Dehumidifier Comparison

hOmeLabs 2500 vs. 4000 Sq Ft Dehumidifiers

If you have problems with too much humidity in your home or work space, this can result in bad smells, mold or mildew and even structural damage, not to mention the potential health problems that may occur. A dehumidifier is an ideal way to ensure the correct level of humidity at all times, removing the bacteria from the air that cause these problems.

The general consensus is that the correct level is between 40% and 45% but maybe slightly lower in the winter to prevent condensation.

Design and Size

The 2500 sq ft dehumidifier of hOmeLabs weighs 40 lbs, and the 4000 sq ft of the same brand comes in at 48 lbs. Both devices are the same size at 15.4 x 11 x 24.3. They are both having an unobtrusive and elegant white design which can be wheeled on casters or carried from room to room with ease via the carrying handle.

Operations

These two hOmeLabs dehumidifiers work by a fan pulling in air and slightly heating the air. The humidity will be drawn out via the compressor before the dry air is expelled. This also means both machines can’t work in a room with an air cooling system present.

Both hOmelabs machines are not that silent, as the noise of the compressor is noticeable. They operate between 58 decibels and 60 dBs dependent on the fan speed which is the same as general conversation levels.

Both machines run at approximately 780 watts which is comparable to their competition and are Energy Star certified to ensure optimum power usage.

Coverage Areas

As you might expect, the 6 gallon (50-pint) machine covers less of an area than the 9 gallons (70-pint) machine. The measurement refers to the amount of water it can remove from the air during a 24-hour cycle.

The 50-pint dehumidifier will cover an area of approximately 2,500 square feet in 24 hours whereas the 70-pint machine will cover 4,000 square feet, a significantly larger space.

Water Removal

Both the 50 and 70-pint models have a 1.6 gallon (13-pint) drainage bucket as part of the machine, and this has to be emptied manually. There is an option to purchase a hosepipe separately which can be connected to an external drainage system so that the bucket does not need to be emptied.

The dehumidifiers have an automatic switch off when the drainage bucket is full, so you don’t have to worry about puddles of water around your machine if you leave it on continuously.

Controls

The hOmelabs dehumidifiers have a touch control panel on the top, with timer, power, defrost and humidity level settings.

Timer controls allow you to decide how long you want your machine to run or if you just want to leave it running continuously (which is the default mode) and the power button runs at normal or high / turbo for maximum air dehumidifying.

Sometimes the coils inside will frost over which is normal and the auto-defrost system will take care of that.

Humidity levels can be set between 35% and 85%.

There is also an auto-restart function which means that, should the power be disconnected, it will restart at that point in the cycle or go back to continuous when the power comes back on.

Product Care

Apart from emptying the water bucket when needed (ensuring the machine is switched off when you are doing so), you should also clean it out at least once a fortnight as it will get dirty and slimy.

The filter light will come on when the filter needs cleaning, on average every 250 hours of usage, depending on whether you are running it at normal or high speed. Clean the filter with potable (drinking) water to make sure you do not contaminate it. Then re-insert the filter before holding down the filter light button to reset it.

Warranty

Both hOmeLabs models have a 2-year warranty which is double compared to most of the competition.

Conclusion

In appearance, size, function, and abilities, the hOmeLabs 50 and 70-pint models are identical. The difference is in the space that needs to be dehumidified. Choose the bigger model if you need to dehumidify between 2,500 and 4,000 square feet and the smaller one if your space is less than 2,500 square feet. There is not a huge difference in price so you might want to choose the 4,000 square foot version if you are not sure.
